Access to the University Library

What hygiene and safety regulations currently apply on the premises of the library?

  • In all UB premises it is recommended to wear a medical or FFP2 mask if the distance of 1.5 meters cannot be reliably maintained.
  • Please note that the regulations of the UKR (in German only) apply to the reading rooms Medicine and StATUR.)
  • Please note: From Monday to Friday, the tables are cleaned daily before the reading rooms open. On weekends, users are asked to clean the desk themselves using the cleaning products provide

Can I work at computer workstations or in the group study rooms?

Computer workstations in the premises of the UB can be used again. Please clean the surfaces with the desinfectants provided.
The group study rooms can also be used again. In this context, please note the information on site.

Can I scan again?

Scanners are available in all reading rooms. The scanner room in the Philosophicum is not open.

Which areas of the UB are currently not accessible?

Currently not accessible is the manuscript reading room. The multimedia center and the library card office can be reached by email or by telephone.


Library card

Students of the UR:

Your student ID-Card (UR-Karte) is also your library card. You can find your user number on the back of the card. If you have any problems with your library account, please contact ausweis.ub@ur.de or come to the information desk in the information center (Monday-Friday 10:00-14:00).

Staff of the UR:

To request a new library card, please fill in this form.
We will then send you your library card by inhouse mail.

Ordering and borrowing

Where can I order and/or borrow which media and where?

The following collections can be ordered or borrowed:

  • Stacks: Can be ordered via the Regensburg Catalogue plus  can be picked up at the contact-free lending area in the Central Library (Monday to Friday 10:00 - 18:00) ; for UR students postal shipping is also possible
  • Textbook Collection: Can be borrowed on site via the self-checkout machine (Monday to Thursday, 10:00  - 18:00, Friday 10:00 - 16:00) ; for UR students postal shipping is also possible
  • Reading rooms: Can be borrowed on site in the respective reading room during opening hours (loan period for UR students 14 days, no renewal possible). This also applies to the holdings of the Reclam special collection (local identifier 55) in PT.
  • State Library and OTH holdings: Can be ordered via the Regensburg Catalogue plus, can be picked up at the contact-free lending area in the Central Library (Monday through Friday 10:00 - 18:00) .

If you are interested in your loans (regardless of the type of media) to be deposited in the pick up and return station (e.g. because you cannot come to the lending area during opening hours) please contact ausleihe.ub@ur.de or the information in the Central Library.

What regulations must be observed when borrowing holdings from the reading rooms?

In all UB premises it is recommended to wear a medical or FFP2 mask if the distance of 1.5 meters cannot be reliably maintained.

Please note that the regulations of the UKR (in German only) apply to the reading rooms Medicine and StATUR.)

  • Please check the loan status ("available for loan" or "borrowed") in the Regensburg catalogue in advance to make sure that the desired (text)book is available
  • Students of the University of Regensburg can borrow a maximum of five books from the reading rooms, the loan period is 14 days (no renewal possible).
  • Books borrowed from the respective reading rooms can also be returned there during the entire opening hours of the respective reading rooms (or also in the contact-free lending area).
  • Scanners are available in all reading rooms. The scanner room in the Philosophicum is not open.

When can I fetch my ordered books?

As usual, you will be informed by e-mail as soon as the media you have ordered are available in the contact-free lending area. Please only come to the lending area after you have received the confirmation via e-mail.

What do I have to keep in mind when collecting ordered media from the Central Library?

Pick-up times at the Central Library's Circulation Area: Monday to Friday, 10:00 to 18:00.
The books are already booked to your user account.
 

Can I order books via interlibrary loan?

Members of the University of Regensburg can order books via interlibrary loan using the Regensburg Catalogue plus. As soon as the ordered interlibrary loan book has been booked in your library account, you can pick it up at the contact-free lending section in the Central Library.


Loan periods and returning media

For how long may I keep borrowed media?

The following loan periods apply:

  • Textbooks and books from the stacks: 4 weeks
  • Books from the reading rooms: 14 days for students (no renewal possible).
    Employees of the university: a departmental loan is possible

If you belong to a risk group and for this reason it is not possible for you to return borrowed media personally in time, please contact us at 0941-943 3990 (Monday to Friday from 10:00 to 16:00) or by e-mail.

Where do I return media?

You can find blue boxes for book returns in the lending area in the Central Library (open from Monday through Friday, 10:00 - 18:00). In the textbook collection area (Monday-Thursday, 10:00 - 18:00, Friday 10:00 - 16:00) a book trolley is available for returns.
Outside opening hours books can also be returned at the automatic pick up and return station close to the textbook collection. Books borrowed from the reading rooms can be returned during opening hours either in the respective reading room or also in the contact-free lending area in the Central Library.

Can I renew borrowed books?

If possible, you can renew your borrowed media via the Regensburg Catalogue plus (renewal is not possible for reading room books).
If renewal is no longer possible, please return the books or send them by mail.

Can I make reservations?

You can make reservations for books from the stacks or the textbook collection via the Regensburg Catalogue plus. You will be informed by e-mail as soon as the reserved item is ready for you.
If another user has made a reservation for one of the items you have borrowed, you will receive an e-mail. In this case, please return the book as soon as possible.

Can I return borrowed books to the library by mail?

You are welcome to return borrowed books to the UB by mail.
Please include a note with your name and user number.

Using e-books and other electronic media

How can I use e-media? (video)

What do I have to consider if I want to use e-books and other electronic media from the University Library at home?

Please note that you have to be logged into the university network via VPN to use e-media or e-books that are subject to a charge. To use library services please use the profile "VPN UR home" via the FortiClient.

In addition, the use of e-media is also possible with some providers by logging in via Shibboleth with the RZ/CC account.

Can I also access legal databases from home?

Currently, you can also access the legal databases from home via VPN.

Unfortunately, the conventional access to Beck-Online from the campus (e.g. staff office) had to be deactivated for technical reasons. Therefore, it is mandatory to create an account at Beck-Online.


Service for students from risk groups

Please note: This service is aimed exclusively at students who, for health reasons, are currently unable to visit the reading rooms to use the reading stations or borrow books due to the risk of infection with the corona virus.

I belong to a risk group - where can I get assistance in borrowing items from the reading rooms?

For students from risk groups, books (maximum of five books from the reading rooms) can be taken out of the reading rooms by University Library staff and made available centrally on a specially set up shelf at the entrance of the contact-free lending area in the Central Library.

It is also possible to deposit books in the pick up and return station, which is accessible throughout the entire opening hours of the building.
Affected students from risk groups are asked to send an e-mail to ausleihe.ub@ur.de and indicate which books (please include the shelf mark) are needed from the reading rooms and where we should deposit them.

I belong to a risk group - are there protected individual workplaces?

A limited number of individual work booths are available in the central library for students from risk groups.

Affected students from risk groups are requested to contact ausleihe.ub@ur.de by e-mail and indicate the period of time during which a workspace is desired.

Can I hand in my dissertation?

Doctoral theses and the corresponding forms can usually be submitted from Monday to Friday from 09:30 - 11:30 or by arrangement at the thesis department. Please contact us in advance and call 0941/943-3904 or send an e-mail to dissertationen@uni-regensburg.de .
At https://epub.ur.de you will find important information (e.g. for submission by mail) and can - even in advance - create an entry for an online dissertation.

FAQ for external users with a valid library card


Access to the University Library

Please note: in order to use the University Library, external users (= all users, except staff and students of the University of Regensburg) need a valid library card. Of course, this can also be a valid libary card of the OTH Library or the State Library.

Can I work in the reading room or at computer workstations?

External users with a valid library card can use reading places in all reading rooms of the departmental libraries. Computer workstations in the premises of the UB can be used. Please clean the surfaces with the desinfectants provided.
 

Can I scan again?

Library Card

How can I apply for a library card?

Currently you can only apply for a library card online. The library card will be sent to your home by mail.

How can I renew my library card?

  • You can renew your library card online. Please contact us by e-mail at ausweis.ub@ur.de.
  • You can send the required documents by mail. For more information please contact ausweis.ub@ur.de
  • You can have your library card renewed on site at the information desk from Monday to Friday from 10:00 to 14:00.

How can I have my library card unblocked?

If your library card is blocked, please contact the information team (info.ub@ur.de). Users with a blocked library card currently have no access to our reading rooms.


Ordering and borrowing

Which collections can external users order via the Catalogue?

The following collections can currently be ordered via the Regensburg Catalogue plus:

  • Stacks
  • Interlibrary Loan
  • State Library
  • OTH Library

The orders can be picked up at the contact-free lending area in the Central Library (Monday to Friday 10:00 - 18:00).

When will my ordered books be available at the contact-free lending desk?

As usual, you will be informed via e-mail as soon as the media you ordered are ready for pick-up in the contact-free lending area. Please come to the lending area only after you have received a respective e-mail.

Can I borrow books from the textbook collection?

The lending of textbooks is also possible for external users.


Can I borrow books from the reading rooms?

For external users, weekend lending is possible for reading room holdings. It is valid from Friday 8:00 until Monday 12:00.

Moreover, scanners are available in all reading rooms.
 

Can I order media via interlibrary loan?

Interlibrary loan is available to external users without restrictions. Orders can be picked up at the contact-free lending area at the Central Library between 10:00 and 18:00. As soon as the books and copies are ready for pick-up, we will inform you by e-mail. Therefore, we kindly ask you only to come to the contact-free lending area as soon as you have received a notification via e-mail.


Loan periods and returning media

For how long can I keep borrowed media?

There is a four-week loan period for books borrowed from the stacks and the textbook collection.
If you have stored an email address in your library account, you will receive a reminder email from us advising you of the loan period end date. Regardless, please check your library account information regularly.
