Only a single subject is usually studied, but it is structured as an interdisciplinary program. Double studies with the state examination program in law are possible.

Special features

In six semesters, students not only gain comprehensive knowledge in the central compulsory legal subjects, but they also immerse themselves in the fascinating world of the digitalization of law. They experience the enormous opportunities that "legal tech" offers for lawyers. Big Data, Artificial Intelligence and Smart Contracts will permanently change legal work. Digital analysis tools help to process huge amounts of data in a matter of seconds. Modern IT speeds up communication with clients, courts and authorities. Intelligent law firm software facilitates daily work. Students learn how new business models can be developed with chatbots, intelligent search engines and advisory platforms on the internet and they learn about online forms of alternative dispute resolution.

Description

The entire degree program is geared towards later vocational activity but maintains a university academic level. Students therefore take part in the traditional legal training and additionally attend courses offered by the new Faculty of Computer and Data Sciences.

Professional prospects / competencies

Graduates can be employed in practically all professional and corporate fields in which better software support for legal processes is required. These can be law firms, but also companies, authorities and associations.

Lawyers with knowledge of legal informatics are already being desperately sought by large commercial law firms, companies, courts, administration and associations, and the trend is upwards. Top salaries are guaranteed!

Program duration / standard period of study

The length of the program depends on the progress of an individual's studies. The standard period of study, the time in which the intended program can be finished ideally is 6 semesters. The actual time taken to complete the program may vary. It is limited by the examination deadlines set out in the examination regulations.

What qualities do I need to have?

Interest in legal issues related to digitalisation. No explicit prior IT knowledge is required. The courses are designed for beginners.
Interest in IT and willingness to learn programming are of course important.

Legal requirements for admission

Proof of general or relevant subject-linked higher education entrance qualification according to the Ordinance on Qualification for Studies at the Universities of the Free State of Bavaria and the State-recognised Non-Governmental Universities, as amended, or an equivalent foreign higher education entrance qualification or proof of higher education entrance qualification according to Art. 45 BayHSchG.

Language skills needed

For applicants who did not obtain their higher education entrance qualification at a German-speaking institution, proof of sufficient German language skills, to be provided in the form of the German Language Test for University Admission of Foreign Study Applicants (DSH) with an overall result of at least DSH-3.
