The Journal of Art History

edited by Birgit Ulrike Münch and Christoph Wagner

Selected publications from all areas of art history, including visual studies, film history, and non-European art, are reviewed in The Journal of Art History (Journal für Kunstgeschichte). Quarterly, this journal provides information on relevant new publications, in detailed short reviews as well as comprehensive overviews. Spanning over 400 pages per year, it offers insights into current debates of art history and related fields. All texts are original contributions and published in German, English, French or Italian.

“The Journal für Kunstgeschichte continues the tradition of the Kritische Berichte zur kunstgeschichtlichen Literatur, but also aims to reach a wider audience and promote critical debate in the field of art and history.” – Prof. Dr. Beat Brenk, University of Basel.

“By presenting reviews in languages other than the language of the original publication, the Journal für Kunstgeschichte not only makes art-historical publications accessible to diverse audiences, but also scrutinizes distinct ‘national’ methodologies. This has the potential to significantly transform the discipline.” – Prof. Dr. Herbert Kessler, The John Hopkins University, Baltimore, Maryland

From 2013 to 2019, The Journal of Art History was edited by Prof. Dr. Nils Büttner from Stuttgart and Prof. Dr. Christoph Wagner from Regensburg. Since 2020, is published under the editorship of Prof. Dr. Birgit Ulrike Münch from Bonn and Prof. Dr. Christoph Wagner from Regensburg.

The articles of The Journal of Art History are also available online.
